Heat transfer printing, also known as heat printing, is transferring of heat-applied materials to other items using a heat press.
Heat transfers on newborn, baby infant & toddler blanks is a very safe and effective way to brand your own logo or design. The process is used as a method of embellishment or promotional purposes. Heat transfer printing is available in several finishes including gloss, matte, and glitter. It is ideal for baby garments that are cotton, cotton blends, or polyester.
Heat transfer printing is very similar to screen printing although it has a more slick finish and is a little lighter on the garment. Using heat transfers is good for highly illustrative graphics, vector graphics, photographic graphics, and those that are very detailed. On light garments, such as whites and pastels, heat transfers appear very bright and brilliant. On darker fabrics it can create the impression of a subdued, vintage effect.
Used quite often for letters or numbers on the backs of T-shirts or jerseys, heat transfer printing involves cutting vinyl to your desired design. The vinyl is available from most printing or art stores and can come in a variety of textures, colors, and fun effects such as glow-in-the-dark, reflective etc. One must use a heat press machine when applying any material to a garment. Heat transfer material is long-lasting and sturdy, and can be applied quite easily using a heat press.
Complex and intricate designs, such as photo-quality designs and very detailed cut-outs, can prove to be problematic for heat transfer printing. Each design must be cut individually and all the vinyl must be removed from the image. For more complex designs, try embroidery or screen printing.
